Fat Bastard Tattoo is a private, appointment-only studio in Parksville, BC, serving Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island. Every booking gets its own time and full attention in a clean, comfortable space — no rush, and no one watching over your shoulder.
Custom art is the specialty: original colour and black & grey drawn for the person wearing it, plus ready-to-wear flash, and cover-ups and clean-ups that turn old or rough ink into work you'll want to show off.
Behind the studio is Seamus. He's been tattooing since he was eighteen — starting in Regina, working shops right across Canada, then settling on Vancouver Island fifteen years ago.
In 2018 a spinal injury left him paralysed from the chest down. He lost pretty much everything he had. What it couldn't take was the tattooing: friends with work still in progress rigged up arm braces so he could keep going from the wheelchair. More than a year in the chair, then a walker, then learning to walk all over again — over three years fighting his way back.
He came back swinging. Tattooing is what he loves and what feeds him, and he's nowhere near done. The only thing that changed is how he works: no busy shop floor, just a private, appointment-only studio where he takes on the pieces he wants to do. That makes him hard to get into. It also means the tattoo you book gets everything he's got.

Deposits
Minimum $100, non-refundable, scales for larger projects, and comes off your final price.
Payment
Cash, debit, credit and Interac e-Transfer. Card payments are taken in-studio through Square.
Cancellations
48 hours' notice. Up to two reschedules with the deposit carrying over.
Running late
More than 30 minutes late without notice may forfeit the deposit and the slot.

Before you book
Common Questions
Will I see the design before my appointment?
It depends on the piece:
Large-scale & custom work — major pieces or portraits that need original concept art drawn from scratch get dedicated design hours before the session, billed as part of the total project time. Many larger custom ideas are already developed and available directly from my active portfolio.
Small & quick tattoos — logos, basic designs and other straightforward pieces that need no time in advance to create aren't drawn ahead of your appointment. We pull from my extensive reference collections and put the final stencil together collaboratively when you arrive. That way we nail the exact size, placement and style on the spot, keep the cost down, and skip unnecessary design fees.
To protect original artwork from being copied or taken to other shops, I don't send custom drawings via text, email, or post them online. You're always welcome to come view custom art in person at the studio.
Do you take walk-ins?
We are appointment-only, but same-day bookings are often available — text (250) 813-1667 to check. We book any time of day, including late nights.
How much does a tattoo cost?
$200 per hour, with a $200 minimum on any booking. Half days (3–4 hours) are $500, full days (4–7 hours) are $850. Bigger projects get quoted up front — no surprises at the end.
Do I need a deposit?
Yes. Deposits start at $100, are non-refundable, scale with the size of the project, and come off your final price.
Can you cover up an old tattoo?
Cover-ups and clean-ups are a specialty. Send a clear, well-lit photo of the existing piece and we'll talk through what's realistic before you book — some things cover easily, some need a session of laser first, and you'll get a straight answer either way. More on cover-ups →
How old do I have to be?
19 or older, with valid government-issued photo ID. No exceptions, and no tattooing under 19 with parental consent.
Where exactly is the studio?
A private studio in Parksville, BC — about 20 minutes from Qualicum Beach and 35 from Nanaimo. Because it's a private space rather than a storefront, the exact address is given when your appointment is confirmed.
How should I prepare?
Eat a proper meal beforehand, come hydrated and well rested, wear something that gives easy access to the area, and skip alcohol for 24 hours. Bring your ID and any reference images you've collected.
